Don’t Be Dominated, Dismayed or Discouraged By Difficult People

The value of learning to give and receive love is not limited to the search for romantic companionship. Development of the ability to be loving, and also receptive to love, in every possible moment is the foundation for happiness in all areas of life.

After all, we are all interacting with hundreds, if not thousands, of people every year, in a mind-boggling array of situations! What if the worst of those encounters could be made easier… and even loving?

Whether in a professional setting or at the grocery store, we are constantly meeting new people, with different backgrounds, different beliefs and different ways of communicating. Unfortunately, many people can prove to be “difficult” more often than we might like. They may be unpleasant, unkind, or just plain mean.

While it may be tempting to speak your mind and be just as unpleasant and unkind back to them, there are far more effective ways to respond. If you can master them, you get to not just cope, but actually create win-win situations out of what may seem like hopelessly unpleasant interactions.

Here are some tips on how you can deal with the difficult people you encounter:

How to Overcome the Fear of New Beginnings

Everything about our lives is constantly changing, and at an ever-faster pace. With each year that passes, there are more people, choices and events to process and find a way to categorize in our experience, relative to everything that came before.

Places, jobs, and of course relationships, shape and shift our perceptions and experiences, about ourselves, others and life itself.  We become comfortable with our surroundings and circumstances, forgetting that life was ever different before. It was this way

But there’s never a guarantee that our circumstances aren’t going to radically morph tomorrow, into something completely different – perhaps even something we’re not exactly crazy about at first! That’s why change can be so scary. But, as the saying goes, “Change is the only constant in life.”

Not being able to rely on the very things that make us feel grounded, secure and content creates a sense of being out-of-control, helpless and small. How can we get back some sense of power over our own existence?

We can shift our mindset and learn to be more adaptable to change. In so doing, we inevitably discover a whole new realm of appealing opportunities. Here are a few ways to overcome the fear of change that new beginnings bring up:

How to Show You Care and Strengthen a Connection

Have you ever found someone you really connect with but you aren’t sure how you can show them?

Someone you enjoy spending time with and whom you feel you could have a real future with? Or maybe it’s a family member whom you find yourself gravitated towards under unique circumstances. Have you ever struggled with telling that person how you feel?

Sometimes we find that we really want to express how we feel to certain people but we aren’t sure how to do that. We are worried that our efforts won’t be good enough or will be received and perceived differently than we desire. We are simply letting past experiences influence how we handle present ones. Outside of the obvious (communication) there are many abstract ways that you can strengthen a connection with someone. Listed below are some ways you can show someone that you care:

Feel Defeated? Here’s How To Keep Going! (Part 2)

So let’s say you took my suggestion in my last blog post, and have been using the practice of envisioning what you want, and how it will feel to have it, in great detail. You’ve seen how it can motivate you to stay the course when you think you’d rather quit. It really helps to keep inspiring yourself, right?

Where you used to feel like Sisyphus faced with the hopeless task of pushing that boulder up that impossible hill, now you can picture yourself in the dip between mountain peaks. And you can see that the next upward slope will lead you to the pinnacle if you just choose to keep climbing.

“Ok,” you say, “I do feel inspired all right. But how do I find the strength to keep climbing?” Great question – and the answer is not some “universal truth” out there, some magic pill or secret mantra that will work for everyone. Each one of us has to find out what it takes for US to stay committed through the tough times until we achieve our goals.

How do you dig deep inside for the inspiration to keep yourself from giving up? If you’re not sure, or you know you don’t have any way of doing that right now, here are two more mindset practices you can use to motivate yourself to take the next step:

Feel Defeated? Here’s How To Keep Going! (Part 1 of 2)

There is a saying that goes ‘If you’re going through hell – keep going.”

It sounds strange – I mean, who would choose to continue to suffer rather than quit and alleviate the pain?

But implicit in the saying is the idea that a very determined person would choose to keep going through hell, in order to come out the other side and achieve the result they want. That person might declare, “If that’s what it takes, then that’s what I’m gonna do – ‘cause nothing’s gonna stop me!

Right now you may be thinking, “But that’s not me!” I would never choose to suffer if I know I can wave a white flag and bail out!”

That’s a very honest and understandable reaction to facing some hardship you could avoid. But surrendering could also mean giving up on a dream that really matters to you! Is that what you really want, to sell yourself out just to avoid being uncomfortable for a while?

What is Your Perfect Person Like?

Do you have a ‘perfect person’ in mind?

When you think about who you would like to spend the rest of your life with, what do you see? Are there certain physical attributes that you would like in that person? Do you want them to be outgoing and social, or shy and reserved? Some people spend a lot of time thinking and manifesting their future someone, which is great! You hope to be with that person for quite awhile, right?

two hearts on sand

There are so many characteristics both physical and emotional that make one person attracted to another person. And those ‘ideal’ traits are different for everyone! What makes someone special to you might be the opposite of what another person is looking for in a mate.

The trick is, there is no right or wrong ‘thing to look for’ – we have to figure out what really matters to us. There’s a little bit of trial-and-error involved in fine-tuning it, but it’s well worth the effort – we all deserve to find that ideal person, so why not manifest exactly who we want him or her to be?

Below are some characteristics that might inspire you to get a better picture of what your version of “The One” is like.

3 Ways to Love Yourself More

As I point out in my book “Before You Love Again,” we all have the power to create a life full of love. We have that power because we embody love. “We are the love we are seeking from someone else”.

But how do we get in touch with that love? How do we take control of that power? Here are three ways to love yourself – even just a little bit more.

  1. Make your health and wellness a priority. There is undeniable confidence and happiness that comes along with feeling good about yourself and the way that you look. If you are not feeling satisfied with your body image or find yourself suffering from health conditions that may damper your mood, the best thing you can do for yourself is try to change it. Seeing a holistic nutritionist who can make sure you’re eating right and learning what physical exercises you enjoy are all ways to achieve this. Learn to enjoy preparing foods that will make you feel good on the inside and out. Discover new methods of healing your mind and body that will make you happy.
  2. Get in touch with your passions. When we were young it was our job to discover our favorite things about life. We could paint, read, play – but as adults our lives are filled with so much duty and responsibility. It’s easy to lose touch with the things we really enjoy! Why not take an art class or learn a new instrument? Or get online

What is a Calling In “The One” Coach?

When people recognize and begin to embody their deepest, truest relationship dreams, their whole experience of their life shifts to a more positive place. They release the stranglehold that fear has had on them, embrace the unique gifts they have to offer another, and choose to have love in their lives – on their terms for the first time. Witnessing someone learning to live in this new way, and the happiness it brings them, is truly a magical thing to watch.

I am privileged to get to watch these personal transformations because I am a Calling In “The One” relationship coach. And while I’d love to think I have a gift for coaching people who are yearning to have deep, sustainable love in their lives, I have to give credit where credit is due. My success rate as a coach in helping clients make these shifts has a LOT to do with the methods and skills I am able to teach them.

These are methods and skills that anyone who wants to bring love into their lives can learn, and I teach them in my practice because they made such a huge difference in MY life. When I was in a very miserable, dark place, feeling VERY unloved and unlovable, they lifted me up and gave me the ability to bring love into my life consistently.

But enough about me – maybe  you’re wondering, “What exactly IS a Calling In ‘The One’ coach?” I’m glad you asked!
